post-title

Indian Academy of Biopesticides aims to promote research, application and dissemination in the field of biopesticides, thereby promoting sustainable food production and protect our mother earth.

  • Agriculture involves producing plants and animals for food, biofuel, and other essential goods, traditionally relying on synthetic pesticides to manage major crop pests effectively.
  • Many synthetic pesticides are non-biodegradable, leading to their accumulation in the environment and contamination of soil, water, and the ozone layer, resulting in adverse environmental impacts.
  • Biopesticides, derived from natural sources such as animals, plants, bacteria, and minerals, have emerged as a safe and sustainable alternative to synthetic pesticides in agriculture.
  • Dr. K. Sahayaraj has been a pioneer in biopesticide research since 1987, significantly contributing to its advancement.
  • Sixteen years ago, in 2008, Dr. K. Sahayaraj organized the first Biopesticides International Conference (BIOCICON 2008) in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, India, uniting researchers worldwide and receiving a tremendous response.
  • The conference highlighted the need for a dedicated society and journal, leading to the establishment of the Journal of Biopesticides.
  • Dr. K. Sahayaraj has advocated nationwide collaboration among biopesticide scientists to further the field.
  • Now, post-retirement, Dr. Sahayaraj, along with dedicated colleagues, is establishing “The Indian Academy for Biopesticides” to continue advancing biopesticide research and application.

  • To promote the expansion and advancement of basic and applied research, skill development, public lectures, and training in biopesticides for students, research scholars, faculty, and the general public, including farmers.
  • To identify, encourage, recognize and promote excellence in scientific research, teaching, and practice in the field of biopesticides.
  • To foster collaborations with research and academic institutions, and funding agencies for the development of safer plant protection and production technologies.
  • To disseminate biopesticide information through publishing books, journals, and monographs, popular articles, and newsletters/e-newsletters.
  • To organize biannual or annual conferences in collaboration with National and International institutions as requested.
  • To organize yearly Endowment/Memorial Lectures in honor of notable and/or well-known biopesticides scientists/entrepreneurs/transformers/farmers/faculties/research scholars/graduate students who have made contributions to the development or adoption of ecofriendly pest management tactics, cultivation, and protection of environmentally friendly crops.
  • To support extension efforts of State Departments of Agriculture and Horticulture through programmes like ATMA (Agricultural Technology Management Agencies) Scheme, besides training farmers and interested entrepreneurs to initiate mass production and distribution of bio-control agents.
